Terrible situation of fourty years old Ruggar Giwa Primary school in Sokoto

Residents and Teachers of Ruggar Giwa primary school, Tuntube, Dange-shuni local government area of Sokoto state, have continued to lament on the dilapidated state of the only primary school in the community.
The school which was established fourty years ago is currently in a terrible condition due to the absence of roofing on the already old buildings and lack of doors and windows.
The lack of doors at the classes and offices left the school open for vandalism.
One of the residents, Malam Muhammad Naira Tuntube, said the bad state of the school have constabtly been a source of worry to the entire Tuntube community.
"We're in a sad mood for the current situation of the school that our children studies. It was established in 1970. And although we don't have problems with the teachers, we have enough teachers in the school, but the current dilapidated structures of the school made us feel so sad".
An official familiar with the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said despite the efforts of the community to seek help for the school, all efforts have failed.
"Although there are times we contribute by providing local roofing (Runfa) for the school, we have been unable to provide a permanent solution to the problem"
About one hundred pupils of the school are usually forced to stop classes when the sun starts to get hotter, according to one of the teachers.
The teacher therefore called on the relevant authorities to come to their aid.
"We’re running the school for only about 3 to 4 hour ls in a day. That's between 8 to 12noon because the later hours would be difficult for the pupils to enjoy the lesson and gain something out of it.
"We are calling on the authorities concerned to look into the possibility of coming to our aid for the betterments of the upcoming generation”
Most of the residents interviewed expressed dismay for the abandonment of the school by authorities concerned, despite their contribution in voting political leaders.
When contacted on the current situation a director mobilisation of Sokoto state Universal Basic education board, Dr Kabiru Aliyu, said the education agency is unaware that the plight of the people.
He, however, promised that urgent measures will be taken to address the challenge.
“As everybody knows governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal is doing his best in the sector, at both basic and higher institution levels.
"So as we’re aware by the grace of Allah we would do something about it.
He added: "This was coming as at time when the newly appointed chairman of Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Altine Shehu Kajiji, was deep in paying unscheduled visits to some primary schools across the state to look their situation, how teachers doing needful for the agency to look possible ways of assisting them"

It could be recalled that in 2015 Sokoto State Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal declared a state of emergency on the state’s education sector.
Since then, the governor has constituted a committee to look into the rehabilitation of schools in the state.
