Customs busts Adamawa syndicate rebagging foreign rice as local
The Nigeria Custom Service, Adamawa/ Taraba Command has smashed a syndicate specializes in re-bagging per boiled foreign rice into local bags in yola, Adamawa state.
Briefing newsmen in yola, the comptroller, Adamawa /Taraba command, Kamarudeen Olumoh said the warehouse is being used to store locally produced rice but the suspects confessed that they normally re bag the foreign rice into the local bags because it cost more in the open market.
He said the custom recovered 900 bags of the foreign rice that were already open for re bagging stating that the paid value of the rice is N14.5m adding that 15 suspects have been arrested and will soon be charged to court.
In the same vein, the command has also intercepted and arrested three persons and a truck along mubi- Yola road with 450 bags of foreign worth about N7.3m believed to have been smuggled into the country from Cameroon republic.
